What a day that was...

The night before I was basking in the fun of catching up with my cousin and goofing around with her boisterous and gorgeous little boys in Phoenix, AZ.  I woke up the next morning to set out for Los Angeles and stay with one of my dearest long-time friends for a few days before I was set to start the final drive north to San Jose and San Francisco.

The last few weeks feel like one long exhale of letting go.  In order to even begin this trip, I had to let go of places and things that I had attachments to.  As this trip has evolved and continued, I feel that each stop on the road has been an experience of falling in love and immediately having to end the relationship.  Each place that I have been has been enchanting…I have been lucky enough to have visited some spectacular places in the last weeks, each outrageously beautiful in its own way.  

She went on to say - and here's where I got blown away - that she feels this, like any other death is meant to happen...that the beauty, life, landscape of our Earth is meant to be destroyed - by our human hands or not - and that it's just something to accept and move on from gracefully like any other kind of death. 

The only danger in visiting all of these beautiful places is the distraction from why I got in my car and headed west in the first place…to ask people all over questions I am looking for answers to. 

There are not enough people questioning why we choose to ignore the most inevitable part of life - the most unavoidable fate of being a human - until it is directly upon us and we are completely unprepared to face it without fear and a million questions of how we feel, how we and our families will cope, how long we are willing to prolong it, and what kind of comfort we need as we navigate all of these waters.
